Blessed Feast of Our Lady of Fátima!

Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria, near Fatima. Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners and for the conversion of Russia. Mary gave the children three secrets. Lucia, the only one that reached adulthood, revealed the first secret in 1927 concerning devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second secret was a vision of hell.

Pope John Paul II directed the Holy See’s Secretary of State to reveal the third secret in 2000; it spoke of a “bishop in white” who was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows into him. Many people linked this to the assassination attempt against Saint John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square on May 13, 1981. (Source: American Catholic)

The Fátima prayer:
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy. Amen.

Our Lady of Fátima, pray for us!

Blessed Feast of St. Epiphanius of Salamis!

Epiphanius was born circa 315 to a Christian family in Judea. He became a monk in Egypt as a young man and was educated there. In 333, he returned home, started a monastery, was ordained a priest, and remained there for 30 years. Epiphanius was fluent in five languages: Hebrew, Syriac, Egyptian, Greek, and Latin. His intellect drew respect from many Church Fathers, especially St. Jerome. Epiphanius staunchly defended orthodoxy and is best known for composing the “Panarion,” a large compilation of the heresies up to his time. Circa 366, he was consecrated as bishop of Salamis, Cyprus, and remained there until his death in 403. (Source: Catholic Encyclopedia)
